ABOUT

T

his project started out as a small story about a small school facing closure. But after one particular interview, I discovered that the disappearance of rural schools is an issue warranting investigation.

Three months of filming, interviewing and researching later, I’ve concluded that as these small schools continue to vanish, they take with them a piece of rural Alberta. I thought that if I was able to at least scratch the surface of why these schools are closing, what the resounding impacts on the community are and relay some possible solutions to the problem, I could propel communities to step forward and join the fight to save rural Alberta.
